Features
Brief description The visual style of this banknote is a classic example of late Soviet-era and socialist design from the 1970s. Issued as part of the 1974 Series for the third lev of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, this 10 Leva note emphasizes industrial progress. The dimensions of the note are 119 x 62 mm. It remained in circulation for over two decades and was officially demonetized on December 31, 1996.

Obverse: The note features an asymmetrical layout. On the left side is a portrait of Georgi Dimitrov, the prominent communist leader of post-war Bulgaria. The official Coat of Arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria is positioned in the middle. The Cyrillic inscriptions state the country's name, “Народна Република България” (People's Republic of Bulgaria), and the denomination written out as “Десет Лева” (Ten Leva). The white margin on the right includes a stylized vignette framing the numeral “10.”

Reverse: The reverse turns its focus toward the industrial strength and economic modernization of socialist Bulgaria, featuring a panoramic view of the Devnya Chemical Works (a massive industrial complex). The inscriptions, written in Cyrillic, name the issuer as the “Българска Народна Банка” (Bulgarian National Bank) and repeat the denomination “Десет Лева.” Additional text states that the banknote is backed by gold and all the bank's assets, alongside a standard legal warning that counterfeiters will be punished according to the law.

Security Features & Substrate: Printed on durable security paper by the famous Soviet printer Goznak. The primary anti-counterfeiting security feature is a localized watermark highly symbolic of the era, depicting two hands holding a sickle and a hammer.
