Brief description The design of this historical banknote is a milestone in British numismatics, as it represents the first and only 10 Shilling note issued by the Bank of England to feature a portrait of the reigning monarch. The visual layout beautifully integrates royal portraiture with classical allegorical imagery.

Obverse: The right side of the composition features the young portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (known as the Series C portrait). On the left, a traditional seated figure of Britannia, the allegorical personification of the nation, is depicted. The background design is rendered in brown tones on a multicolored protective underprint with intricate guilloche structures.

Reverse: Framed within a circular medallion on the center-right side, the allegorical figure of Britannia is repeated. She is depicted seated with her protective shield, holding a spear and an olive branch, symbolizing both defensive strength and a desire for peace.

Watermark: A continuous vertical row of laureate heads positioned on the left side of the note.
