Brief description The design of this 2 Hryvni banknote is dedicated to the golden age of Kyivan Rus, the final establishment of Christianity, and the foundation of fundamental legal and cultural traditions. The visual composition matches the portrait of a prominent medieval ruler with the principal cathedral of Kyiv from that era.

Obverse: The primary vignette features a portrait of Yaroslav the Wise, the Grand Duke of Kyiv. To the left of the portrait, an excerpt from his testament to his children is inscribed: «...if you live in love with one another, God will be with you...». The top section features the inscription «НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ» along with the signature of the Governor. The text denomination «ДВІ ГРИВНІ» is placed at the bottom, complemented by the numeral «2» in the corners.

Reverse: The central motif depicts the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, a world-famous architectural and mural masterpiece from the first half of the 11th century, where the Duke founded the first library in Rus. The inscriptions include «ДВІ ГРИВНІ» at the top and «НАЦІОНАЛЬНИЙ БАНК УКРАЇНИ» just below it. The building is officially identified by the caption «СОБОР СВЯТОЇ СОФІЇ» alongside the series printing year.

Watermark: A localized watermark matching the portrait of Yaroslav the Wise, located on the unprinted coupon area.
