Brief description The design of this hybrid 500 Ouguiya banknote highlights the economic development, agricultural sector, and mineral-rich mining industry of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. The dimensions of the note are 138 x 65 mm.

Obverse: The design features intricate geometric and ornamental patterns incorporating traditional native motifs. All inscriptions on this side are written in Arabic script. The name of the issuing authority, “البنك المركزي الموريتاني” (Central Bank of Mauritania), is placed at the top. The denomination is displayed in Arabic numerals “٥٠٠” and in words “خمسمائة أوقية” across the lower part.

Reverse: The reverse illustrates two main pillars of the national economy. The left side features an agricultural scene with harvesters working in a field, while the right side depicts a large mining and industrial complex, representing Mauritania's mineral wealth. The top bears the French inscription “BANQUE CENTRALE DE MAURITANIE”. The denomination is stated at the bottom as “500 CINQ CENTS OUGUIYA”. A legal warning penalizing banknote counterfeiting is printed in French.

Security Features & Substrate: The note is printed on a hybrid substrate that combines the durability of polymer with the traditional feel of paper. Its security features include a watermark depicting a bearded man alongside an electrotype “500”, a security thread, and fine-line security patterns. This banknote was officially demonetized.
