Brief description The design of this banknote honors Hristo G. Danov, a prominent Bulgarian enlightener, publisher, and public figure who is widely regarded as the father of organized book publishing in Bulgaria. Issued under the third lev series during the early post-socialist Republic era, this 50 Leva note captures the transitional period of the early 1990s. The dimensions of the note are 125 x 62 mm. This specific currency type circulated throughout the decade before being officially demonetized in the summer of 1998.

Obverse: The front features a portrait of Hristo G. Danov (1828–1911). All text is executed in Cyrillic, displaying the denomination “Петдесет Лева” (Fifty Leva), the issuing bank name, and the lifespans of the publisher, paired with the large numeral “50”. The note was designed by Antonii Ivanov.

Reverse: The back depicts a 19th-century printing press on the right side, directly symbolizing Danov's life work and the evolution of Bulgarian publishing and literacy. The layout is completed by the nominal value in text and numbers, alongside the standard legal warning stating that counterfeiters will be punished according to the law.

Security Features & Substrate: Printed on security paper by the German enterprise Wertpapierdruckerei in Leipzig. Its protective features rely on a watermark showing a rampant lion (the traditional heraldic symbol of Bulgaria), and it carries the official signatures of Governor Todor Valchev and Chief Cashier Lyuben Ivanov.
