Brief description This banknote is not just a piece of paper, but a "time capsule" from the Comoros, historically known as the "Perfume Islands". Despite the year 1984 indicated on it, it remains one of the most interesting printing errors of its time.

Why is it interesting? The main "highlight" of this note is the inverted watermark. In the world of collectors, such technical errors are valued much higher than perfectly printed banknotes, as they testify to the human factor and malfunctions on high-performance printing presses of the Banque de France.

Obverse: The obverse depicts an administrative building in the city of Matsamudu—the administrative center of Anjouan Island, which has a rich history of sultanates and maritime trade. The portrait of a woman nearby is not just a picture, but an attempt to convey the very spirit of the islands, where women's attire and their role in the community are key elements of the social structure.

Reverse: The scene on the Moheli beach is a reflection of a reality you are unlikely to see in tourist brochures. Women with fruit and canoes near the shore are part of the daily life of the locals, where the ocean and nature dictate a rhythm of life that has not changed over the last decades.

The French trace: Since the Comoros were under French protectorate for a long time, the choice of the Banque de France for printing was obvious. French masters integrated a style into this note characteristic of colonial issues, where engraving detail borders on high art.
