Investment Portfolio 2026: TOP 10 Banknotes with High Capitalization Potential
In the previous article, we established the foundation: why notaphily today is a full-fledged class of alternative investments. However, theory without practice yields no profit. Today we move to specifics: what a portfolio capable of showing steady growth over the coming years looks like.
Below is my subjective selection of assets, formed based on 7 years of experience in the international market and a deep analysis of price dynamics.
This article is not financial advice. It is a professional opinion based on experience in forming private collections and observing auction cycles.
Market Favorites 2026: My Expert Selection
-
Ukraine: 50 and 100 Hryvnia 1992 (Unissued Projects) This is the "Holy Grail" of Ukrainian notaphily. Banknotes that were printed but never entered circulation are now becoming world rarities. Their quantity is strictly limited, and their historical weight as symbols of the state's formation makes them a desirable target for serious capital. I expect stable growth in the value of these positions due to their "Unissued" status.
-
Curaçao and Sint Maarten: 200 Gulden (2024/2025) The winner of the IBNS "Banknote of the Year" contest. The "Banknote of the Year" status automatically places the issue in the must-have category for collectors worldwide. Experience shows that once the initial supply settles in private funds, the price for such specimens begins to rise rapidly.
-
Faroe Islands: 1000 Kronur 2005 (IBNS Banknote of the Year) A vivid example of an asset gaining value before our eyes. While 6 months ago this banknote could be found for $450, today the price has confidently crossed the $650 mark. It has already become scarce, and I expect further price appreciation due to its incredible artistic value and the difficulty of finding it in perfect condition.
-
Australia: 5 Dollars 1992 Sets (Paper + Polymer) A fantastic booklet containing two banknotes: the last paper and the first polymer. The uniqueness of the issue is the absence of a date on the banknotes themselves. This is not just money; it is a technical artifact of the beginning of the global "polymer revolution."
-
Australia: 10 Dollars 1993 Sets (Paper + Polymer) A similar concept set for the 10-dollar denomination in an official booklet. Since Australia was a pioneer of the technology, these early releases in folders are a fundamental base for any investment portfolio.
-
East Caribbean States: 2 Dollars (Polymer, Commemorative) Caribbean issues are always liquid thanks to unsurpassed aesthetics. The 2-dollar denomination featuring Sir Vivian Richards is a position that is quickly being washed out of the market. High-quality UNC specimens are expected to increase significantly in price soon.
-
Kazakhstan: 10,000 Tenge ("Saka Style" Series) The National Bank of Kazakhstan consistently creates masterpieces that combine ultra-complex security and cultural codes. Such banknotes are the "blue chips" of notaphily, which only increase in prestige over time.
-
United Kingdom: 5 and 10 Pounds (King Charles III, First Prefixes) A historical event—the first change of monarch on British money in 70 years. The highest potential lies with banknotes with the very first prefixes (e.g., CA 01 or HB 01). It’s a classic: owning the beginning of a new numismatic era.
-
Macau (China): Year of the Dragon Commemorative Issues The Asian market is the most powerful driver of prices. Dragon symbolism is in colossal demand, which guarantees these banknotes ultra-high liquidity anywhere in the world.
-
USA: $1 and $2 (Star Notes Series) Replacement banknotes (with a star) are printed in limited batches. For the US market, which is the largest in the world, a Superb Gem Uncirculated condition for the "star" series is a guaranteed interest for investors.
Success Strategy: Quality Above All
My experience suggests: in notaphily, the winner is the one who sees value where others see just a means of payment. However, remember: only a banknote in UNC (Uncirculated) condition is investment-attractive. Every micro-crease or defect exponentially reduces the value of the asset in the future.
At World Banknote Store, we focus on finding exactly such specimens—rare, perfect, and promising. In investing, time works for you only when a truly unique item lies in your safe.
