The National Bank of Tajikistan put into circulation a new commemorative banknote with a face value of 100 somoni on October 30, 2025. This banknote is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the national currency, the somoni, and is the first commemorative banknote in the history of the country.

Design and appearance

The banknote measures 156 x 65 mm and is made of paper. The color scheme includes light blue, dark blue, pink, red, and green shades. The obverse side features text in the Tajik language, the bank logo as a registration element, the 25th-anniversary logo, a purple-green RollingStar patch, the Samanid Mausoleum, Ismoil Somoni (founder of the first centralized state), and the national emblem. On the reverse side – text in English and Tajik, the new parliament building, the bank logo, and the flag. The banknote is dated 2025, with the prefix AA and the signatures of the Chairman of the Bank, Jamoliddin Nuraliyevich Nuraliyev (or corresponding signatures).

Security features

The banknote is equipped with advanced security elements. Among them is a 6-mm purple-orange RollingStar Venus windowed security thread with the demetalized mark BMT and 100. This is the first banknote in the world with such a thread, which includes MotifFlip and ColorFlip effects. A RollingStar patch is also present on the obverse side. The watermark depicts Ismoil Somoni. The printing house is Giesecke+Devrient (Germany).

Significance and awards

This banknote not only marks the anniversary of the currency but also demonstrates innovations in design and protection. On December 2, 2025, at the High Security Printing Asia conference in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), it was recognized as the best new commemorative banknote of 2025. The introduction of the banknote emphasizes the stability and development of Tajikistan's financial system, and its technologies set new standards in the world of banknotes.
