In a celebration that intertwines a rich history with modern financial traditions, Thailand’s Ministry of Finance has announced the release of a commemorative 100-baht banknote. Set to enter circulation on April 14, 2025, this special edition honors the ministry’s 150th anniversary. The official announcement, published on the Royal Gazette website, highlights the significance of this milestone in the country’s financial history.
The banknote, officially approved by Minister of Finance Pichai Chunhavajira, has been produced under the supervision of the Bank of Thailand in accordance with the Currency Act of 1958. The new issue will maintain the familiar dimensions and color scheme of the standard 100-baht banknote, first introduced in 2018. However, its unique feature is the inscription "150 Years Ministry of Finance April 14, 2025," elegantly printed in red on the lower front section of the note. Importantly, existing 100-baht banknotes will remain in circulation alongside this commemorative edition.
Lavaron Sangsnit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, enthusiastically announced a series of celebratory events, which will take place both at the ministry’s headquarters and on a grand scale at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event will be held under the theme "Past – Present – Future," symbolizing the ministry’s crucial role in shaping Thailand’s economic stability and prosperity.
In addition to the commemorative banknote, the Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Treasury Department and the Bank of Thailand, will introduce another numismatic treasure—a commemorative 50-baht coin. This coin will serve as a special tribute to the ministry’s anniversary, connecting historical achievements with future financial advancements.
Such commemorative releases have a long tradition in Thailand. Just last year, a 100-baht banknote was issued to mark the 72nd birthday of King Vajiralongkorn. It featured a unique vertical design, the first of its kind in Thai currency, and was made from durable polymer material, ensuring longevity. The release generated great interest among collectors and royal enthusiasts. The latest commemorative note is expected to attract a similar level of excitement.
The 150th anniversary of Thailand’s Ministry of Finance is not just a ceremonial event but a significant step toward the country’s financial future, honoring its distinguished past.
